The soldiers had to use their own guns and didn't have a real uniform, unlike the British. The higher level people got uniforms. The patriots, the French, and the Spanish all wanted to join the Continental Army. The soldiers were volunteers. Most volunteered for one year at a time. The Continental Army was mostly men but had a few women. Most of the women dressed as men, so every one would think that they were men. Some of the army were minuteman who could fight on a moments notice.

The Continental Army's general was George Washington. Most of the soldiers were farmers or merchants. Later in the war, the Continental Army got allies; France and Spain. The war went on for a long time, but the Continental Army won against the mighty British.
